1. Nothing Endures but Change: Urs is Moving On from Redpoint Coaching

It is with both great excitement and a heavy heart that I announce I will be moving on from my coaching business. Since starting Redpoint Coaching in 2002, I have had the great privilege to work with more than 200 business leaders. I have greatly enjoyed supporting my clients in their professional and personal growth. After six years as a business and executive coach, I have decided to take on a new challenge.

As of late summer of 07, I will be taking over the position of Client Service Team Manager at Merriman Berkman Next (a Redpoint executive coaching client!). Merriman Berkman Next is a financial services company based in Seattle. The company’s mission is to be ‘The Money Manager for Life’ for their clients. Currently they provide investment management and accounting services. I will be in charge of a client service team that includes Investment Managers, CPAs, Traders and Client Service staff. In my role, I will be reporting directly to the CEO. Throughout my coaching engagement with Merriman Berkman Next over the last 12 months, I have been impressed with the senior management team, the entrepreneurial culture and the company’s willingness to make changes.

Giving up my own business and going to work for an already established company is a huge step, and the decision to do so has been one of the most difficult professional decisions I have ever made. Why leave a successful, fun and enjoyable coaching business, you might ask? The answer is threefold.

I am attracted to:

  1. Having ‘skin’ in the game. After working as a coach/advisor/consultant, I am attracted to the opportunity to execute on what I preach ;-) and to be accountable for the results of my team.
  2. The leadership challenge of earning the respect of a team of accomplished professionals.
  3. Being a member of the strategic planning process of a rapidly growing firm.

I will be winding down my coaching business over the next month or so while starting to familiarize myself with my new position at Merriman Berkman Next.

The last six years as a coach have been an incredible journey, and I am thankful to all the people who have supported me along the way. The biggest thank you goes to all my clients: It has been a privilege working with you, and I sincerely appreciate having been part of your journey.

2. Publication of ChangeAbility on Hold

Because of my career move mentioned above, the publication of ChangeAbility will be put on hold until further notice. Many of you have been kind enough to share when the content of this ezine excited  you, challenged you, spoke to you in some way, and I thank you all for your interest. Your comments not only inspired me to continue with ChangeAbility, they also helped me to look critically at my own thinking, my own assumptions about how business “should” be done, and that has been invaluable to me.

3. Race Across Oregon: Win and Course Record!

The big ‘A’ event for the year, Race Across Oregon (RAO) is behind us, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. RAO is 535 miles long, and there are more than 40,000 feet to climb.  Chris Ragsdale and I competed in the 2-man division. Riding 15-30 min pulls each, we smashed the old course record by 1 hr and 45 min and won in a time of 27 hrs and 13 min.

We had a strong race but had to work very hard to keep the competition in check. Our respective crews were outstanding, helping us to get the job done.

You can see us finishing at the top of the grueling Timberline Lodge climb (on Mt Hood) here.

Now, it’s time to re-group and tackle the remainder of the 07 ultracycling season: The exhausting 24-hour race Ring of Fire in mid September.
